Anelise G. Grotto is a Ph.D. student at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil). She undertook a research internshipt UNAM. During this internship, she analyzed and described the leaf anatomy of several Violaceae species found in the Americas, including Mexican species such as Ixchelia mexicana and Hybanthus yucatanensis. Her research focuses on species from the “hybanthoides” lineage, whose phylogenetic resolution or morphological delimitation is still unclear. Additionally, as a complementary part of her thesis, she will describe the underground system of Pombalia velutina, a species from the Brazilian Cerrado, and investigate the possible presence of latex in Ixchelia kochii, a newly described Mexican Violaceae species.
