Luis carried his MSc studies at the Federal University of Viçosa (Minas Gerais, Brasil), when I was part of the graduate program there. He studied the wood anatomy of the mega-diverse genus Byrsonima and allies. Byrsonima woods are the best known in the Malpighiaceae, being of moderate economical importance but, in spite of that, no study to date has explored its diversity. Luis collected species from different habits in the field (shrubs and trees), made anatomical sections and unraveled that the group is extremely homogeneous, and its diversity doesn't fit the past taxonomic classifications for the group.
