The study of the development, structure and evolution of plant galls
Funding: PAPIIT DGAPA

This is a nascent project where we expand our studies on the origin, ontogeny and evolution of complex anatomy to the formation of plant galls. Plant galls are new organs formed by the stimulus of a galling agent, be an insect (Diptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera), fungus, bacteria or virus. We are in collaboration to a Brazilian Gall Expert Dr. Renê Gonçalves da Silva Carneiro (Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiania, Brazil) and Dr. Alejandro Zaldivar Riverón, head of the National Insect Collection of our Institute, and expert in parasitoid wasps.
