M. Alejandra Jaramillo is a Colombian botanist specialising in plant systematics, taxonomy, phylogenetics, and evolutionary biology, with particular expertise in the family Piperaceae and especially the megadiverse genus Piper. Her research integrates morphological and molecular approaches to investigate species diversity, phylogenetic relationships, diversification, and the evolution of form in tropical plants. She has also worked extensively on the taxonomy and description of Neotropical Piper, particularly in Colombia and the northern Andes.
